The Mounted Police unit was formed with effect from 1-11-1952 from out of the Non Indian State Forces, by His Highness Krishnaraja Wodeyar. The unit served as the Body Guards for the King with the strength of 1 commandant, 1 Police Inspector, 1 Reserve Sub Inspector, 2 Asst. reserve Inspector, 12 N.C.Os and 110 P.Cs. with 36 Followers.

In view of the integration of Non I.S.F. into M.A.R.P Palace Guards, Government appointed a committee of selection in their order with the chairman , P.S.C as the chairman of the committee with a view to select the most fit and competant officers among the old force for the Mounted Police Unit.

These personnel have got different kinds of uniform according to the dress regulation of the unit and they wear them according to occassions.

1. Riding Dress for Mounted parades
2. Khaki Tunic Dress for Guard Duties
3. Full Dress and Summer Dress for ceremonial Parades and Escorts
